The Power of Play in Early Learning
Hosted by Geetha Ramani
Date: February 2nd, 2026
Time: 7:00-8:00 PM EST
Geetha B. Ramani is a Professor of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she also directs the Early Childhood Interaction Laboratory. Dr. Ramani’s research explores how young children develop early math and problem-solving skills through play and informal learning experiences. She investigates the ways classroom activities, parent-child interactions, and home environments support children’s mathematical growth.
Her work also examines the role of executive function and language skills as key factors in mathematical learning, with a special emphasis on diverse populations. Across her research, Dr. Ramani highlights the benefits and unique processes of joint play with adults and peers, demonstrating its importance for educational practices both at home and in school. Through this work, she provides valuable insights into how playful, collaborative learning experiences can lay the foundation for children’s long-term academic success.Register for the Next Mathodology Roundtable
