Welcome to the Essentials of Teaching Mathematics Workshop—powered by [Math]odology!
This immersive, three-day training (July 14–16, 2025) is designed for educators who want to move beyond rote memorization and help students truly understand math. You’ll learn how to develop the conceptual understanding behind mathematical procedures in practical, relatable ways—so both you and your students can connect ideas and make learning more meaningful and impactful.
Across three focused days, you’ll:
- Discover strategies for teaching the “why” behind the “how,” making math more engaging and relevant for learners
- Experience hands-on activities and real classroom scenarios you can use right away
- Connect with fellow educators in a collaborative, supportive environment
Workshop Format:
- Interactive, hands-on sessions
- Small group collaborations
- Real classroom application scenarios
- Time for planning and reflection
- Opportunities to network with fellow educators
You’ll leave equipped to foster deeper understanding, relate math concepts to real life, and inspire a genuine love of math from the very start of the new school year.

3-Day Workshop: Essential Strategies for Teaching and Learning Mathematics
Day 1 – Whole Number Operations & Building Fluency (July 14)
Gain a strong foundation in number sense and learn how to create a supportive, well-structured math classroom. Explore how students naturally develop mathematical understanding, and discover practical strategies to guide their progress.
Day 2 – Fraction Operations & Introduction to Word Problems (July 15)
Discover why fractions often present challenges for students and learn effective ways to teach these concepts. Explore how visual models can bridge the gap between the verbal language of word problems and the symbolic language of mathematics, helping students make sense of both.
Day 3 – Advanced Word Problems, Assessment, and Lesson Planning (July 16)
Tackle complex word problems using visual models and bring together all aspects of effective lesson planning and assessment. You’ll have time to start mapping out your grade-level plans and leave the workshop with your first math unit ready for the classroom.

“I found it very valuable to see the difference small teacher moves can make in the learning students are able to show in a lesson. We all think we are teaching the same math lessons, but it is very clear to me now that the students are experiencing math differently in each classroom. Also, the chance to pick up on the language and style Ban Har uses when teaching and talking about math is always so beneficial and helps me change my teaching for the better.”

“My goal was to do journaling better. I like the journal communication pages. It has me thinking about what entries I can create to push my students. Learning the three languages of mathematics will help me too! I can give guidance to my students.”
