Ready to Spark Joy and Meaning in Every Math Moment?

Empowering Kindergarten Teachers and Learners: Engaging Math Strategies for Early Success

Unlock joyful, effective kindergarten math instruction with Developing Roots—a comprehensive early childhood math curriculum with ongoing professional learning support. Our sessions put playful, hands-on learning at the heart of every lesson, making activities meaningful and grounded in core math concepts. Get expert classroom strategies, engaging math activities, and practical lesson plans designed to build number sense, measurement, geometry, and math fluency in kindergartners—while teachers feel confident and supported every step of the way.

Session 1:

This session guides you through the basics of setting up a successful kindergarten math classroom. You’ll get tips on organizing materials, using math shelves, creating defined learning areas, and developing lesson routines that foster both independence and smooth classroom management. The session also offers practical ways to incorporate reflection and assessment—on your own, in small groups, and even during playtime.

Session 2:

Here, the focus shifts to numeracy. You’ll cover how to introduce numeral writing, counting sequences, and sorting activities that use different attributes. The session shows you how to help students grasp foundational ideas like cardinality, one-to-one correspondence, object counting, and comparing quantities—setting them up for a strong start to the rest of the year.

Session 3:

Measurement becomes the main topic, with plenty of hands-on strategies for exploring length, weight, and capacity. You’ll find out how to use games and activities to help these concepts stick.

Session 4:

This session is all about geometry and spatial understanding. You’ll look at ways to teach position, location, and the features of both 2D and 3D shapes, so students can start recognizing and describing shapes in the world around them.

Session 5:

The last session centers on operations. Using math stories and concrete models, you’ll help students learn to put together and take apart numbers, build fluency with addition and subtraction, and move from using physical objects to drawing models and writing number sentences.

Throughout every session, there’s a strong focus on reflection and ongoing assessment, helping you monitor student progress and fine-tune your teaching as you go.

Absolutely! The engagement, responsiveness, and concrete information!
You understand why people say Sarah is passionate about teachers. That passion came through in every detail her and her team planned for this workshop. I can’t wait to come back!

As a literacy leader, I came into this workshop looking to understand the connections between disciplines better, and I left with so much more. The Mathodology team brings deep content knowledge paired with a strong understanding of the science of learning.

What stood out most was their ability to model the kind of thinking and questioning we hope to cultivate in students, while also honoring how we learn as adults. You immediately understand why people say Sarah and her team are passionate about teachers. Their dedication came through in every activity, interaction, and conversation throughout the workshop.

The experience was intellectually stimulating, thoughtfully paced, and incredibly practical. It deepened how I think about supporting both student and teacher growth. I can’t wait to come back!

Yes, I would absolutely recommend this workshop—it was one of the best trainings I’ve ever attended. To be honest, my passion has always been in teaching reading. But for one of the first times, I left a math training feeling genuinely inspired. This workshop provided a powerful combination of research, strategies, and practical classroom activities that made the content feel both meaningful and doable. It not only deepened my understanding of how to teach math effectively, but also sparked a real excitement to bring that learning to life in my classroom.

This is by far the best workshop I’ve ever attended. After over ten years of teaching, I’ve always felt most at home with reading instruction, and math often felt like a challenge. For the first time in my career, I’m genuinely excited—and truly inspired—to teach math. This workshop gave me the tools to not only help my students build strong math skills, but to nurture a love for thinking, questioning, and exploring numbers with curiosity and confidence. Over the course of three days, we were given the research, rich content, and practical strategies—all paired with clear, supportive guidance for bringing it into our classrooms. And best of all, it was engaging and energizing. I’m leaving with a full heart, a fresh perspective, and a toolbox of ideas I can’t wait to share with my students.

Incredibly helpful to have each class take place shortly before you are about to teach a new section. It really helps to put the lessons in the teacher manual in perspective and makes them easier to plan and teach. Each class gave information, not only for lessons, but the reasoning behind each and why certain language or procedures really make a difference to student learning. Each class had things that you could take away and immediately implement in your class. Always having ideas for shelf items was helpful as well.
Each class is well organized and touches on the big ideas for the topic to help you see how a child progress in his or her learning through the topic.
